Elizabeth Woepse
Mater Dei, Track and Field
Woepse broke the school record in the girls’ pole vault Thursday in a nonleague meet against Woodbridge, clearing 11 feet 1 inch. Woepse, a freshman, made the height on her third attempt, breaking the school record she set earlier in the week by one inch. Her winning mark was also the sixth-best vault in county history. Woepse’s previous best was 10 feet 6 inches, which she recorded in an age-group competition last summer.

Foothill, Softball
She was named MVP of the Bullhead City (Ariz.) Tournament of Champions, pitching Foothill to the title game.
* Brooke Weekley
Capistrano Valley, Softball
On the mound she was 5-1; at the plate, 9 for 22 with 4 doubles and a triple. She was named Cypress tournament MVP.
Cameron Ball
Corona del Mar, Tennis
He upset Palos Verdes Peninsula’s Jeff Kazarian, 8-3, in singles Saturday at the National High School
Tennis All-American tournament. It was Ball’s first victory over Kazarian, who is ranked
82nd nationally and 12th in Southern California in boys’ 18s. Ball, who was unbeaten in the tournament for the second straight year, was named to the all-tournament team. He is ranked 198th nationally, 15th in Southern California.

Mater Dei, Basketball
He had nine points and four steals off the bench in Mater Dei’s win over Modesto Christian in the state championship.
* Jeff Flaig
El Dorado, Baseball
He pitched a no-hitter, striking out three, in El Dorado’s win over defending Empire League champion Kennedy.
