Battles in Kashmir Kill 13 Rebels, 3 Soldiers

Thirteen rebels and three soldiers have been killed in separate gun battles in India’s revolt-racked Kashmir, police said.
They said a militant and a soldier were killed near Shopian township, south of Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir state.
At least 12 militants and two soldiers died Wednesday, police said.
Indian officials say security has been increased across Jammu and Kashmir after the United States started retaliatory strikes Sunday against targets in Afghanistan.
Nearly a dozen militant groups are fighting New Delhi’s rule in Kashmir, India’s only Muslim-majority state.
