A woman charged with trying to drown her son and daughter in Channel Islands Harbor will be examined by a mental health expert to be selected by prosecutors, a judge ruled Monday.
Narinder Virk, 41, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges of attempting to murder her 10-year-old son, Sonny, and her 7-year-old daughter, Harpreet, in January 2000. Virk is free on $500,000 bail.
Virk’s lawyer says her client was abused by her husband and snapped after he boarded a plane for India with plans to divorce her.
