I ride a sport bike. The two riders in “Filling the Need for Speed” (June 5) are what we refer to in the sport bike community as “squids.” Totally irresponsible; in fact, they each seem to have a death wish. The majority of us don’t even come close to the antics they display. The article sensationalizes the acts of a few at the expense of many.
Although the number from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety may be correct, the rise in deaths may be attributed to a trend by baby boomers to buy Harley Davidsons. I have a great respect for true bikers and their Harleys. But the baby boomers are buying in greater numbers and, having little experience, are crashing in greater numbers. It was irresponsible for The Times to have printed this article.
