Northwest Ends Travel Agent Commission

Northwest Airlines Corp. it would stop paying base travel agent commissions for tickets sold in the United States and Canada, joining other major airlines.
Minneapolis-based Northwest said the change would take place immediately, though it would continue to pay travel agents normal commissions outside of North America, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Delta Air Lines Inc. became the first to cut base commissions last week. On Monday , AMR Corp.’s American Airlines, and Continental Airlines Inc. followed, as have some foreign carriers.
