$1-Million Annual Tag on Giuliani’s Protection

NEW YORK
Since Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani left office Dec. 31, at least a dozen police detectives have been protecting him, his family and his girlfriend at a projected cost of nearly $1 million a year, a police official said. The protection extends to Giuliani’s two teenage children, his estranged wife and his mother.
It is common for mayors to have police protection after they leave office, though Giuliani’s predecessors have had smaller details.
