West Beach has gotten a face-lift to make it more hospitable to sailors and paddlers.
The new quiet-water area was created through a $600,000 dredging project that removed 250,000 cubic yards of sand and re-contoured the beach. The nearly four-month project was completed April 26 and reopening ceremonies will be May 18, said Dave Myerson, city waterfront facilities manager.
