Records Cite Concerns Over Accused Priest

The Catholic Archdiocese of Boston knew in the early 1990s that a local priest facing charges of child rape was psychologically damaged “beyond repair,” medical records show, but still approved his work with youths at a church-affiliated hostel.
Medical and psychiatric records released in connection with a civil suit show that archdiocesan officials and doctors exchanged correspondence in the 1990s about Father Paul Shanley in which they expressed concern over his psychological condition and whether he might cause further harm.
