Motorcycle Commuting

Re “Auto, Bike, Bus Race to the Office,” May 17: It was with interest that I read about the La Crescenta-to-downtown-L.A. race. Two years ago, at age 55, I got my motorcycle license and have commuted to downtown L.A. from Venice every day. I have two motorcycles, one new and one used, both of which get better than 40 mpg, and my commute at any time is less than 30 minutes.
Plus, as any motorcyclist knows, riding a motorcycle is fun! I have enough room in two saddlebags for two large grocery bags, dry cleaning, etc.--for errand-running. Why is the motorcycle never included as a viable form of transportation in any discussion about alternatives to driving a car?
