Two Carriers Cut Fares for Summer

Northwest Airlines Corp. and Continental Airlines Inc. cut U.S. round-trip fares about $20 and international fares as much as 30% to try to jump-start demand for the summer season.
The discounts were announced by Northwest, the fourth-largest U.S. airline, and followed by No. 5 Continental. UAL Corp.’s United Airlines and Delta Air Lines Inc. said they were studying Northwest’s move.
The largest discounts are for travel between April 29 and June 19, said Terry Trippler, who tracks fares for CheapSeats.com.
