Tribes Clash Over Cattle in Northeast; 63 Killed

Sixty-three people have been killed in clashes over cattle in northeastern Uganda in the last two weeks, the army and government officials said.
The violence erupted Dec. 28 when Pokot tribe members killed 10 people in an attack on their Karimojong rivals and fled with 800 cattle, said Peter Lokeris, a government minister for the Karamoja region. A revenge ambush killed 18 people, he said.
A third clash left 35 people dead, army spokesman Shaban Bantariza said.
