House Arrest Ordered for Former Dictator

Former Guatemalan dictator Efrain Rios Montt was ordered held under house arrest on manslaughter charges related to the death of a reporter in July.
The onetime military strongman is accused in lawsuits of directing the slaughter of tens of thousands of Maya Indians during his 1982-83 rule.
But a judge ordered him to stay home in Guatemala City in the case of radio reporter Hector Ramirez, who died of a heart attack while being chased by rightists at a demonstration in favor of a Rios Montt presidential bid.
