Santa Ana fire officials on Saturday were investigating an apartment fire that killed two dogs and injured a firefighter.
The fire, which began about 8:10 p.m. Friday, destroyed one apartment in the two-story, 16-unit complex in the 1200 block of East Fairhaven Avenue, said Capt. Ben Gonzales, a Fire Department spokesman.
The flames were extinguished in 15 minutes, he said, but not before the dogs died and a firefighter sustained a leg injury for which he was treated at a hospital and released.
The resident was not home at the time of the fire, which began in the kitchen, Gonzales said. Damage to the building and contents was about $350,000, he said.
