Re “The New Crop of Scrapbookers” [by Charlie Amter, April 6]: I am surprised you gave little mention to Creative Memories, which started the whole scrapbook-making industry in 1987. The company now has 90,000 consultants in the U.S. and other countries. The company donates major dollars to the Alzheimer’s Assn. and consultants donate time and money for its annual Memory Walk.

Thank you for the great article on scrapbooking. But you left out one of the respected and talented people who brought this hobby/craft to the limelight: Lisa Bearnson, the founding editor of Creating Keepsakes, 10-plus years ago. The magazine is the bible of scrapbooking. There are several newer magazines, and they are great; however, none can be considered with such reverence as Creating Keepsakes.

I had to cringe when I saw the photo with the Elmer’s rubber cement cap. Scrapbooking is about preservation, and using archival safe materials and adhesives to preserve photos and memorabilia. Rubber cement does not fall into this category.
As for digital scrapbooking, I am a 25-year computer professional who likes scrapbooking precisely because it is a hands-on craft.
To me, the beauty of it is selecting and coordinating the colors and papers, and moving the photos and embellishments around the page until the layout “pops.”
For the first time in my life, I’ve discovered a creative outlet that I never had before.
