Thomas Ades, one of England’s most prominent and exciting young composers, comes to Los Angeles for a monthlong residency. He’ll conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic this weekend in music by Tchaikovsky and Sibelius as well as his own Violin Concerto (“Concentric Paths”) and a new concert suite from his recent opera “The Tempest,” with members of the original Covent Garden cast. The soloist in the concerto is Anthony Marwood, for whom it was written. Ades also will team up with Marwood to play chamber music at the Doheny Mansion on Wednesday as part of the Da Camera Society series and go back to Disney Hall to collaborate with the Phil’s New Music Group on Feb. 21.
Thomas Ades conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 S. Grand Ave., L.A. 8 p.m. Friday. $15 to $129. (323) 850-2000; www.LAPhil.com.
