Trainer Jaime Gomez and jockey J.R. Ramirez made it two wins in a row in the Golden State Million when Jess You And I, the 5-2 second choice, was up to beat Blues Girl Too in the $1,223,800 race on Saturday night at Los Alamitos.
Remaining unbeaten in four starts for Double Bar S Ranch LLC, Jess You And I, who broke from the outside in a field reduced to nine after Magical Latin Lover was scratched, ran the 400 yards in the Grade 1 in a stakes record 19.30.
The previous stakes record was 19.42 set by Ocean Runaway in 2004.
Jess You And I also was not far off the track record of 19.30 set on Nov. 19, 2005, by Ocean Runaway.
A gelded son of Feature Mr Jess bred in California, Jess You And I beat Blues Girl Too, who broke best of all from the rail in her quest to win for the fourth time in five starts.
