From Times Wire Reports
Dublin’s mayor evacuated his official residence and army specialists were called in to search for a bomb that a Protestant paramilitary group said it planted 25 years ago.
Police said nothing was found after a daylong operation involving detectives, search dogs and bomb-disposal experts.
The security alert followed a claim made in a newspaper interview with Ulster Volunteer Force leaders. They said they had targeted the leadership of the Irish Republican Army’s political ally Sinn Fein as it held its annual meeting at the Mansion House in 1981.
