Anschutz Apparently in the Wrong Sport
That L.A. Kings owner Philip Anschutz was elected to the Soccer Hall of Fame in the “Builders” category and not hockey sums up the frustration that Kings fans have with their wealthy yet clueless leader. It has been more than a decade since AEG bought the Kings, but they are no closer to competing for the Stanley Cup today and their poor track record under his reign speaks for itself.
In an area blessed with local, dedicated owners like Buss, Moreno, McCourt, Samueli and, lately, even Sterling who -- gasp -- actually attend their teams’ games and are interested in winning, L.A. hockey fans deserve better than Denver-based Anschutz, who admits he doesn’t even follow the team and obviously prefers a soccer ball to a hockey puck.
At this rate the only way that Anschutz gets inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame will be in the “Destroyers” category.
