Katrina doctor case is closed

NEW ORLEANS — The doctor and two nurses once accused of killing patients in a flooded hospital after Hurricane Katrina face no further charges, authorities told a judge on Monday.
“The attorney general’s investigation is closed, there is no continuing investigation, no one is targeted,” Assistant Atty. Gen. Julie Cullen said. “This case is closed.”
Orleans Parish Assistant Dist. Atty. Michael Morales said the case against Dr. Anna Pou ended when a grand jury refused to indict. The cases of nurses Lori Budo and Cheri Landry were dropped after they were compelled to testify before the grand jury.
At least 34 people died at the hospital, many from dehydration during the four-day wait for rescuers.
The three had faced nine counts of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit second-degree murder.
