Ship that spilled oil now seaworthy

The ill-fated ship that sideswiped the San Francisco Bay Bridge last month and caused the worst oil spill to hit the scenic region in more than a decade has been repaired and authorized to resume maritime commerce.
The U.S. Coast Guard announced Thursday that it had given the 900-foot container ship Cosco Busan permission to ply the seas again.
The ship’s owners have posted a $79.5-million bond to offset any unpaid costs from the Nov. 7 accident, which required a massive cleanup operation that is ongoing.
For weeks, the ship had remained in port for repairs as the Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Board conducted an investigation into the accident.
