An 87-year-old Santa Ana man died Thursday after the ambulance in which he was being transported collided with a car in Fountain Valley.
Police did not release his name.
The accident occurred about 5:15 p.m. as the ambulance drove through the intersection of Magnolia Street and Slater Avenue, said Lt. Mike Simko, a spokesman for the Fountain Valley Police Department. Simko described the trip as a “routine medical transport,” though he could not say where the ambulance was headed.
The man was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died, Simko said.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
