A Los Angeles man and two members of a Riverside family that was traveling to Mexico for a funeral were among at least 17 passengers who died in a bus crash in western Mexico.
The bus, carrying 35 passengers, went off a mountain road Saturday while traveling between the resort city of Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara, officials said.
The U.S. Embassy said the crash killed U.S. citizen Jesus Morales Robles, 66, of Los Angeles.
Among the survivors was Juan Antonio Quezada de la Cruz of Riverside, who was traveling with seven relatives to attend a funeral in Guadalajara. A sister and a 1-year-old nephew died in the crash, he said.
Mexican authorities said three other injured passengers were from Los Angeles and Riverside.
