Police were searching for a motorist who they say left the scene after striking a bicyclist early Saturday morning.
The 30-year-old bicyclist, whose name was not immediately released, died a short time later of “multiple traumatic injuries,” police said.
The man was riding a BMX bicycle west on 31st Street near Griffith Street about 1.30 a.m. when he was struck by a dark-colored vehicle, said Los Angeles Police Officer Greg Ortiz, who read from a department statement.
The injured bicyclist was taken to California Hospital Medical Center, where he died, Ortiz said.
Police searched the area for witnesses, he said, but could not find any. Anyone with information can call the Los Angeles Police Department’s Traffic Division at (213) 972-1853.
