Edwin Gordon, who wrote the screenplay for “The Chosen,” a 1981 film about Orthodox American Jews that starred Robby Benson and won a Christopher Award for affirming “the highest values of the human spirit,” died June 23 at a residential care facility in Canoga Park, his son Peter said. Gordon, who had suffered a series of strokes, was 83.
