Eagle Scout from Irvine pleads guilty to thefts

An 18-year-old Irvine Eagle Scout arrested last month on suspicion of stealing iPods, cash and cigarettes from vehicles pleaded guilty to seven misdemeanor counts in court last week and was sentenced to 60 days in jail.
Carter Andrew Sudeith, 18, was also sentenced to three years’ probation and is scheduled to begin serving his jail time Monday.
Sudeith pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor counts of petty theft and one misdemeanor count of possession of burglary tools, including latex gloves and a flashlight, Farrah Emami, spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney’s office, said Wednesday.
Sudeith was arrested June 18, just hours after his high school graduation in Irvine, police said. He was dressed in black, carried a black backpack and wore latex gloves. Sudeith was apparently looking for unlocked cars and was able to get into as many as 30, police said.
Investigators had no indication that Sudeith was working with another person, said Irvine Police Lt. Rick Handfield.
