Officer is charged in shooting

The San Diego County district attorney’s office filed criminal charges Tuesday against a San Diego police officer in connection with an off-duty shooting in which a female motorist and her 8-year-old son were wounded.
A felony charge of gross negligent discharge of a firearm and a misdemeanor charge of exhibiting a firearm were filed in San Diego County Superior Court against Officer Frank White.
White, 28, fired five shots in what San Diego County Dist. Atty. Bonnie M. Dumanis said was an apparent “road-rage incident.”
The charges carry a maximum of nine years in prison, according to Dumanis. White, who was placed on desk duty after the shooting, was suspended without pay Tuesday, the same day he was ordered to surrender for arraignment.
The incident occurred March 15 when Rachel Silva, 27, allegedly cut off White’s car in traffic.
