Ozzy Osbourne, the heavy-metal singer whose life was the subject of an MTV series, won an apology from the Daily Star newspaper in London on Thursday to settle a lawsuit over an article that claimed he had a “health scare” at an awards show.
Northern & Shell Group’s Daily Star newspaper apologized and agreed to pay a “substantial” sum to charity. In return, Osbourne agreed to drop the case, his lawyer, John Kelly, told a court hearing.
Osbourne sued over a February article titled “Ozzy’s Freak Show” in which the newspaper said Osbourne came close to pulling out of presenting the Brit Awards, a U.K. music industry ceremony, Kelly said. The article alleged Osbourne fell over twice just before the event, prompting organizers to consider sending him to the hospital.
