Apology in plot to loot corpses

The mastermind behind a multimillion-dollar scheme to loot hundreds of corpses and sell their body parts apologized to families of the victims and thousands of tissue recipients.
Michael Mastromarino, a former oral surgeon who owned Biomedical Tissue Services, told victims he was sorry for the pain and grief he had caused. The New Jersey company shipped bones, skin and tendons to tissue processors. Uses included dental implants and joint replacements.
The bodies, which included that of “Masterpiece Theatre” host Alistair Cooke, were not medically screened.
Mastromarino has pleaded guilty to enterprise corruption, body stealing and reckless endangerment.
