at Boston 9, Baltimore 2: Mike Lowell hit his second grand slam of the season, a streaking J.D. Drew hit a two-run homer and the Red Sox improved to 18-3 in their last 21 games at Fenway Park. Their 28-7 home record is the best in the majors, but their 14-20 mark away from home is the worst of the six division leaders. Drew is 18 for 36 with six homers and 15 runs batted in since returning from a wrist injury, raising his batting average from .282 to .324. He also has five doubles, a triple, 15 runs and 10 walks in that span.
at Kansas City 6, Texas 5: Alex Gordon and Mike Aviles each hit a two-run homer and the Royals rallied from a 5-4 deficit with two runs in the eighth. Pinch-runner Tony Pena Jr. scampered home on Frank Francisco’s wild pitch and Gordon scored on Jose Guillen’s sacrifice fly to give the Royals the lead.
at Cleveland 12, Minnesota 2: Ben Francisco and Jamey Carroll had four hits apiece and the Indians had 18 hits, including homers by Shin-Soo Choo and Grady Sizemore.
New York 4, at Oakland 1: Andy Pettitte (6-5) bounced back from giving up a career high-tying 10 runs last Saturday against Kansas City.
at Detroit 2, Chicago 1: Miguel Cabrera hit a 2-and-1 pitch from Octavio Dotel (3-3) for a game-ending solo homer. Despite sweeping the three-game series, the Tigers remain eight games back of the AL Central-leading White Sox.
