A man was killed and a 15-year-old boy seriously wounded when five suspected gang members started shooting at a graduation party, authorities said Saturday.
Miguel Reyes, 21, of Anaheim was found dead about 10:45 p.m. Friday in the backyard of the house in the 1800 block of West Cerritos Avenue, where he was attending a party with more than 50 other guests, police said.
“We don’t believe he was a gang member,” said Sgt. Rick Martinez, a spokesman for the Anaheim Police Department.
Authorities declined to release the name of a 15-year-old boy also shot in the head during the altercation.
“We think he was an unintended victim,” Martinez said. “He just got in the way of the melee.”
Martinez said the youth, taken to a local hospital, was expected to survive.
The shootings occurred just minutes after five uninvited males arrived at the party. They then fled, along with most of the guests, Martinez said.
