Re “School rallies round dismissed teacher,” June 12
I was appalled but not surprised by the article about English teacher Karen Salazar being dismissed from her teaching duties at Jordan High School. As a teacher myself for more than 25 years, I can only say that here is another example (not that we need more) of what is so fundamentally wrong with the Los Angeles Unified School District system.
Jordan High was very fortunate to have a highly educated, enthusiastic and inspiring teacher on its staff -- and officials chose to let her go. I believe that Salazar has a great future ahead in any of the most rigorous private schools in Los Angeles.
Once again, it will be the public school students who will suffer at the hands of the school district that is supposed to educate them.
