* Seattle 5, at New York Mets 2: Felix Hernandez hit the first grand slam by an American League pitcher in 37 years, then departed because of a sprained ankle before he could qualify for a win. Facing a fellow ace from Venezuela, Hernandez connected against Johan Santana with two out in the second inning to give Seattle a 4-0 lead. The opposite-field shot to right-center was the first home run by a pitcher in Mariners history, and the first slam by an AL hurler since Cleveland’s Steve Dunning against Oakland’s Diego Segui on May 11, 1971.
* Arizona 2, at Boston 1: Dan Haren was dominant over seven shutout innings, limiting Boston to two hits and outpitching Josh Beckett.
* Milwaukee 4, at Atlanta 1: Ben Sheets pitched a four-hitter and Mike Cameron hit a two-run home run for the Brewers.
* at Kansas City 8, Colorado 4: Brian Bannister won his third in a row and Mark Teahen hit a three-run homer for the Royals. Bannister (7-6) is 3-0 in his last six starts.
* Angels 3, at Washington 2: Garret Anderson’s eighth-inning single drove in the go-ahead run.
