‘Wonderettes’ is heading east

Roger Bean’s 1950s-era pop musical “The Marvelous Wonderettes” is headed for New York. The show -- which played for 19 months at North Hollywood’s El Portal Theatre and begins an eight-week run at Laguna Playhouse on July 12 -- will open at off-Broadway’s Westside Theatre on Sept. 14.
“That long run in L.A. was so important for the momentum, for the feeling that we could do it, and can do it, and find an audience for it in New York,” Bean said Wednesday.
“Wonderettes” producers are in discussion with “some members” of the original four-woman North Hollywood cast to continue in the New York production, but casting has not been set.
