A failure to trumpet injustice

Re “Probe finds illegal hiring at Justice Dept.,” June 25
The Times’ decision to place this story on the bottom of Page A9 is inexplicable and inexcusable.
I find what the Justice Department did not only politically outrageous but ethically and morally outrageous as well. The reported actions by the Justice Department undercut both the actual and perceived rule of law that underlies our democratic principles. This is front-page news by any objective, professional journalistic standard.
Because the Times did not place this news item on its front page, untold thousands will never know how this administration’s Justice Department intentionally violated the will and expectations of all Americans. We expect Justice Department lawyers to make legal decisions and recommendations based strictly on the law and the merits of the case -- not for political or personal reasons.
