Budget crisis is the GOP’s fault

Re “Republicans also make good points,” Column,

George Skelton is wrong. Republicans don’t make a single good point. A more abysmal analysis of the budget fiasco in Sacramento could hardly have been written. The budget crisis is the Republicans’ own doing. By taking advantage of the nonsensical California constitutional requirement that tax increases need a two-thirds vote, the Republican minority has insulated wealthy contributors from paying their share of taxes and has promoted the lie that this is in everybody’s interest. Before this strangling constitutional amendment, when the majority could rule in California, we had adequately funded schools, infrastructure and social programs. Now the most successful beneficiaries from this past are intent on crumbling our status to the likes of Mississippi and North Dakota.
