Regarding the story, “Tighter emission rules seen,” Jan. 19:

Let’s hope Detroit can get beyond the “can’t do” attitude that has brought it to the brink of ruin. The story failed to mention that Ford and GM already market a fleet of vehicles in Europe that would meet upcoming California standards.

It’s also interesting that you did not reference the 30 years of willful stagnation that followed the Nixon-era mandate for improved fuel economy.

However, your piece also clarifies that it is not just the Detroit 3 that have been fighting progress in reducing pollution. I always delight when Toyota is exposed for their monumental hypocrisy in this area.
