Syracuse wins in six overtimes

Syracuse outlasted Connecticut in the second-longest Division I game ever played, capping a Big East tournament quarterfinal doubleheader in which the second- and third-ranked teams in the nation both lost.
Andy Rautins hit a three-point shot 10 seconds into the sixth overtime Thursday night, giving the Orange its first lead since regulation and they went on to a 127-117 victory over the third-ranked Huskies at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The game finished one overtime short of the record set in Cincinnati’s 75-73 victory over Bradley on Dec. 21, 1981.
The game started at 9:36 p.m. and ended at 1:22 a.m.
Jonny Flynn had 34 points and 11 assists for the Orange (25-8), playing 67 of the 70 minutes, the most of any player. A.J. Price had 33 points and 10 assists for the Huskies (27-4).
Much earlier in the evening, West Virginia beat No. 2 Pittsburgh, 74-60.
During the day, Dwayne Anderson’s last-second layup fell in as the buzzer sounded and his only field goal of the game gave No. 10 Villanova a 76-75 victory over No. 21 Marquette.
Villanova will play Louisville, which got 24 points and 10 rebounds from Earl Clark to beat Providence, 73-55.
Big 12
James Anderson hit two free throws with 2.3 seconds left and Oklahoma State upset No. 6 Oklahoma, 71-70, in a quarterfinal in Oklahoma City.
LaceDarius Dunn hit six three-point shots and scored 24 points as Baylor stunned No. 11 Kansas, 71-64.
Dexter Pittman dominated inside for a second straight game, finishing with 19 points and a career-high 20 rebounds as Texas beat Kansas State, 61-58. DeMarre Carroll scored 19 points and No. 14 Missouri beat Texas Tech, 81-60.
Atlantic Coast
Lewis Clinch set a career high with 32 points and last-place Georgia Tech beat No. 17 Clemson, 86-81, in Atlanta. Clinch made five three-pointers to carry the Yellow Jackets (12-18), who went 2-14 in the ACC during the regular season.
Southeastern
Kodi Augustus scored 19 points and Mississippi State beat Georgia, 79-60, in the opening round in Tampa, Fla.
Atlantic 10
B.J. Raymond had 18 points to lead No. 19 Xavier to a 66-47 quarterfinal victory over St. Louis in Atlantic City, N.J.
Western Athletic
Stavon Williams scored 22 points on six-for-eight shooting from three-point range and Utah State scored an 85-68 victory over Fresno State in the quarterfinals in Reno, Nev. Utah State will play New Mexico State, which beat Boise State, 80-70.
Mountain West
Lorrenzo Wade had 20 points and 10 rebounds while making a series of key shots in a tense second half, and San Diego State (22-8) kept its NCAA tournament hopes alive with a 71-57 victory over host Nevada Las Vegas in a quarterfinal.
San Diego State will face Brigham Young, which held off Air Force, 80-69.
Conference USA
Shawn Taggart scored 19 points, and No. 4 Memphis extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 23 straight by holding off Tulane, 51-41, in the quarterfinals in Memphis, Tenn.
Paul Delaney III scored on a layup with less than a second left to lead Alabama-Birmingham to a 74-73 overtime victory over Southern Mississippi.
