Praise the chance to limit spending

Re: Michael Hiltzik’s business column, “The wrong road to fiscal responsibility,” April 27:
Michael Hiltzik considers Proposition 1A a time bomb because if spending on some budget components is permitted to grow at a rate greater than inflation, spending on other components will have to be reduced.
Proposition 1A defuses the time bomb that is uncontrolled government spending by forcing politicians and the populace to recognize we can’t have it all. The state will have to make the same hard choices that so many of us must make in our personal financial affairs.
Such discipline should be welcomed, not criticized.
