The Los Angeles Times Business section was recognized with a general excellence award by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers at its annual convention in Dallas this weekend.
“The paper is clearly committed to devoting resources and space to business coverage,” the judges said in awarding the prize. “Beyond its great and thorough coverage of Toyota, the paper provides a great mix of stories in its business section.”
The Times won the award in the category for newspapers with circulations of 500,000 or more. The business sections for the New York Times and USA Today were also given general excellence awards in that category.
Times Editor Russ Stanton said, “We are honored and grateful to receive this type recognition from our peers, particularly for a part of our coverage that remains so vital to our readers.”
