More jobs were created last month than analysts had expected.
The government reported Friday that employers added 171,000 jobs in October, in the last unemployment report before the presidential election Tuesday.

Even though more jobs were created, the unemployment rate rose last month to 7.9% from 7.8% in September. But the good news is that’s because more people returned to the labor market.
