Clayton Kershaw may be one of Major League Baseball’s premier starting pitchers, but that didn’t stop him from trying his hand at closer earlier this year.
The Los Angeles Dodgers ace and reigning Cy Young Award winner closed on an oceanfront condominium in Fernandina Beach, Fla., for $1.95 million in early January. Public records show that the sale was recorded roughly one week before Kershaw and the Dodgers agreed to a record-setting contract extension worth $215 million.
Occupying the entirety of the fifth floor, the unit features a country French décor with antique finishes, hand-painted murals and Walnut flooring. The 4,800 square feet of living space includes a gourmet kitchen, an elevator entrance and a dedicated master wing with an office, a private sitting area and his and her baths.
Each bedroom has a private bath and a balcony with water views. In all, the unit has five bedrooms and six full baths.
Kershaw, 26, is familiar with the area, having spent part of two minor league seasons pitching for the Jacksonville Suns, then the Dodgers’ Double-A affiliate. He is 5-2 with an earned run average of 3.17 in eight starts this season.
