Fashion designer Max Azria’s Maison du Soleil in the Holmby Hills area has come on the Multiple Listing Service at $85 million.
Set on three acres, the Traditional-style mansion was designed by early architect-to-the-stars Paul Williams and built in 1939. Today the 30,000 square feet of artfully updated interior space includes 60 rooms.
Inside the red-colored, double-entry doors a two-story-tall chandelier creates the appearance of a fountain in the foyer. One-of-a-kind lighting fixtures draw the eye to the ceiling in other public rooms as well.
A Moroccan-style bathhouse, a 6,000-square-foot movie theater, a bar, a guesthouse, 17 bedrooms and 22 bathrooms are among the white and light-toned living spaces.
Five stylized garden areas define the grounds, which include a tennis court, a swimming pool and expanses of lawn. A two-sided gas fireplace sits at one end of the outdoor dining room.
Azria, 66, is the founder of BCBG Max Azria, a brand of contemporary clothing for women, and is chairman of BCBG Max Azria Group, which includes more than 20 brands.
He bought the property for $14.4 million in 2005 from famed television writer and novelist Sidney Sheldon.
Jaime Cuevas, Mauricio Umansky and Billy Rose of the Agency are the listing agents.
