Pharrell Williams, Cara Delevingne and Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld are giving Austria's Hapsburg-era history a sartorial twist in the fashion house's latest short film.
The "Happy" crooner and the British model du jour star in Lagerfeld's "Reincarnation," a short film featuring vocal stylings from the Grammy winner and Delevingne in a track called "CC the World," according to WWD.
The film reportedly replays a key episode in Chanel founder Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel's life that gave rise to the designer's iconic jacket. Legend has it that Chanel was inspired by an elevator operator's tailored coat while she was vacationing at an Austrian resort in 1954. And Williams, 41, and Delevingne, 21 -- costumed as Austrian aristocrats Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth -- play out a whimsical fantasy sequence in the comic seven-minute film, which debuts in full on Dec. 1.
"There's a touch of Pop Art in it," Lagerfeld told WWD in an interview last week. "It's not meant to be a historical reconstruction or something heavy like that. This is light and funny."
Chanel, Williams and Delevingne teased to "Reincarnation" and its elaborate wardrobe on Monday ahead of the brand's Metiers d'Art show, which takes place at Salzburg's Schloss Leopoldskron this year on Dec. 2.
Lagerfeld, the 80-year-old designer, photographer and director, has also stationed himself behind the behind the camera to create films for previous shows. Last year, he shot "The Return" for Chanel's Paris-Dallas collection. Actress Geraldine Chaplin played Coco Chanel and reportedly reprises her role as the legendary French designer in this year's short.
