Kate Middleton gets ‘baby on board’ pin at Tube visit with Queen

The former Kate Middleton stepped out with Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday to celebrate 150 years of London’s Underground trains at the Baker Street Station. And the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge received a “baby on board” pin to boot.
The Queen’s husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, also attended the event. The Queen is said to have looked “happy and healthy” after battling symptoms of gastroenteritis. The 86-year-old monarch had to miss a handful of royal engagements because of her illness. She was released from the hospital March 4.
The royals viewed a restored Tube cart from 1892 and the monarch was honored with a plaque on the S7 train, which christened it Queen Elizabeth II, according to Metro.

The London Underground’s chief operating officer presented Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, with a “baby on board” pin, which is meant for expectant mothers onboard the “choob” to signal passengers to give them priority seating. It also “saves men the embarrassment of having to guess if a woman is pregnant,” he said.
Something tells us that few people don’t realize that Prince William’s wife is pregnant. And that the five-months-along duchess doesn’t take the Tube all that much, since she asked how the pin works, despite saying that she “used to travel on the Tube on a regular basis.”
When the Duchess received the gift, she replied, “I’ll make sure I wear it at home” as she held the pin against her embellished Malene Birger coat at the presentation at Baker Street.
Baker Street was part of the first stretch of London’s Subway system and opened on Jan. 9, 1863, when it was first called the Metropolitan Railway. You may also recognize it as the address of Sherlock Holmes from Arthur Conan Doyle’s books.
