CRSSD Festival returns this fall with Flaming Lips, Jamie xx and more

San Diego’s CRSSD Festival will return this fall for a second installment, and the lineup is both bigger and a bit less dancey than before.
The Flaming Lips, TV On the Radio and Panda Bear are among the more rock and experimental-driven acts that will headline the festival on Oct. 10 and 11.
That’s a bit of a departure from the almost exclusively house and techno-focused bill for the first one. But fear not, dance fans. Jamie xx, Todd Terje, Zhu, Maya Jane Coles and Giorgio Moroder are among the top dance acts bolstering the fest’s reputation for forward-thinking but populist electronic music.
CRSSD is produced by FNGRS CRSSD, a new firm from the San Diego EDM concert production team LED, which has partnered with Goldenvoice on its dance programming in venues across Los Angeles and Southern California.
For the first installment in March, a sold-out crowd of 15,000 watched acts like Empire of the Sun, Chromeo and Pete Tong play late into the night at San Diego’s Waterfront Park (and some adjoining after parties). The fest will return to the same location for a second year, with tickets on sale July 17.
To judge by the crowd on the returning red-eye Amtrak, the fest was a hit with L.A. dance music fans who wanted to avoid their cars for the weekend. And in a still-booming festival market, CRRSD looks to have found an expanding niche all its own.
