WGN adds two new unscripted series

WGN America branched out into original scripted programming this year with the two series “Salem” and “Manhattan.” Now it’s expanding its unscripted offerings with two new series, set to debut early next year.

The two new series are “Outlaw Country” and “Wrestling With Death.”

For “Outlaw Country,” described as a “docudrama,” film crews travel to Buckner, Mo., and follow two groups around: The law, as represented by two brothers who make up the town’s Criminal Task Force, and another two brothers who they believe are behind the town’s recent surge in crime.

The series, produced by Bischoff Hervey Entertainment, will have a seven-episode season.

The other series, “Wrestling With Death,” is described as a “docuseries” about the Latham family of Osceola, Ark. They’re morticians, operating the Wilson Family Funeral Home, but they’re also wrestlers, operating the Mid-Southern Championship Wrestling League.

The series will be executive produced by Leftfield Pictures, the production company behind “Pawn Stars,” and will have a 12-episode season.

The unscripted shows will join the second season of “Salem,” set to debut in April, the second season of “Manhattan” and the channel’s new scripted series “Outsiders.”
