Fast-moving brush fire burns in Simi Valley

Firefighters in Simi Valley were planning to work overnight Wednesday to battle a fast-moving wildfire that had swiftly spread to 40 acres.
The Banister fire ignited about 5:30 p.m. near Banister Way and Wood Ranch Parkway, near the city’s border with Thousand Oaks, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
As of 10 p.m., more than 100 firefighters had halted the forward spread of the fire, which was 50% contained, according to the Fire Department.
The blaze was initially burning in grass along a ridge that was not reachable to certain fire engines, according to the Fire Department.
Winds between 5 and 10 mph pushed the flames through light grass across a road, less than half a mile from a cluster of suburban neighborhoods.
No structures were threatened and no evacuation orders have been issued.
