A Los Angeles Unified School District police officer was involved in a shooting Friday following a carjacking and vehicle collision in Westlake, officials said.
The incident, which did not happen on school grounds, took place shortly before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Alvarado and West 3rd streets, said Sgt. Julie Spry, a public information officer for LAUSD police.
A suspect has been taken into custody, Spry said.
Det. Meghan Aguilar, an LAPD spokeswoman, said the suspect was involved in a carjacking that led to a car crash in the vicinity of Alvarado and West 3rd shortly before the shooting occurred.
The school police officer was not the victim of the carjacking or involved in the crash, according to Aguilar, who said both the suspect and the officer were hospitalized with injuries.
School police officials plan to hold a news conference near the shooting scene later Friday.
