Firefighters work to rescue plumber trapped in sewer line in Oakland

Reporting from Oakland — Fire crews were working to rescue a plumber who fell into a sewer line in Oakland and remained stuck under debris nine hours later.
Oakland Fire Department Battalion Chief Lisa Baker said the plumber was working in East Oakland on Tuesday afternoon when the land around him gave way and he fell some 15 feet below the street.
The Oakland Tribune reported that the worker was partially buried but conscious and talking to a group of firefighters trained to rescue people from confined spaces.
The plumber remained stuck Tuesday night, and fire officials were digging out sand to help bring him out.
