Search for killer of Palms chiropractor continues two years later

Family and friends of a 54-year-old Palms chiropractor found bludgeoned to death in his office nearly two years ago gathered Saturday in hopes of reinvigorating the search for the killer and to pay tribute to a man beloved by his patients.
About a dozen people shared a moment of silence before dispersing to pass out fliers and speak to neighbors and business owners near the Venice Boulevard strip mall where Robert Rainey kept his office.
The avid long-distance runner was discovered on his lobby floor by his first patient of the day on May 31, 2012. Rainey suffered apparent blunt-force trauma to the head and was pronounced dead later at a hospital.

Well liked by those who sought treatment and known for slipping money to the homeless or hiring them for odd jobs, Rainey had run his business from the small retail complex for 15 years.
Authorities suspect robbery was the motive and Los Angeles police continue to investigate but have asked for the public’s help. A $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for Rainey’s death was recently renewed by the city.
“It’s just been kind of a baffling case,” said Rainey’s brother James, who is a Times staff writer.
Raised in Malibu, Robert Rainey was one of three children and the son of Ford Rainey, a television and film actor. He was a member of several running clubs and had planned a 33-mile canyon run with friends the weekend after his death.
